Sakaki is a tall, quiet, kind, soft-spoken girl, usually misinterpreted as tough or mysterious, but has a secret infatuation with all things cute, especially cats, although cats don't seem to like her too much (especially Kamineko). However, she cannot own a cat herself, as her mother is allergic. On their classes' trip to Okinawa, on Iriomote island, Sakaki finds an Iriomote cat, later named Maya, but unfortunately had to part with. And after being defended by Maya from a gang of cats trying to attack her, decided to keep Maya when she moves into her own place. Sakaki is envious of Chiyo's adorable presence. Her last name is unknown. Sakaki is my favorite character out of all of them.

Also known as Chiyo-Chan, Chiyo is incredibly smart, skipping five grades to get to tenth grade at only 10 years old, and still being the top of the class. Chiyo is very responsible, trying to shut down any problem her friends get into. She is very rich as well, living in a mansion. Dreamed by Sakaki and Osaka, her father is a strange yellow cat (Chiyo-chichi). A small part of her still longs for a carefree childhood. She is displayed as very adorable compared to the other students. She has a dog named Mr. Tadakichi, who she takes on walks every evening. Chiyo is my least favorite character out of all of them, fuck Chiyo.

Tomo is an acive, playful and enthusiastic girl, who often does not think before she acts. She is most likely to start trouble, and usually annoys her friends around her, especially Yomi, but even then still cares for them. She does horrible in school, and is the leader of the "Knuckleheads"/"Numbnuts" (or "Bonklers"/"Boneheads"), containing Kagura and Osaka. Tomo is my second favorite character, she sometimes reminds me of myself.

Osaka is a ditzy, spacey, easily distracted, calm girl who got her nickname (Osaka) from being a transfer student from Osaka. She is most recognizable/popular in fandom spaces. Despite their differences academically, she is closest to Chiyo, the two having a close friendship together. She often has trouble focusing in class, and is very prone to daydreaming. She is the second member apart of the Knuckleheads/Numbnuts for her poor performance in class.

Kagura is an athletic, tomboy-ish girl, she does not become a recurring acquaintance until later on in the show, she is a bit similar to Tomo, but they do have their differences, like Kagura's lack of impulsive outburts. She has a slight one-sided rivarly with Sakaki, always trying to compete with her. She is the third member of the Knuckleheads/Numbnuts. And although her personality is rough, she can be sensitive at moments. Her full name is unknown. She is my third favorite character.

Yomi is a mature, smart girl who is the target of Tomo's teasing, which annoys her. And even if she acts mature, she tries to hide her own silly side at times as well. She is insecure about her weight despite being relatively fit (which is just another target for Tomo), and anonymously writes to talk-show hosts about it. She is very horrible at singing.

Yukari is a short tempered teacher for the main protagonists of the show. She is a highschool friend with Nyamo, Despite her and Nyamo's friendship, she is very jealous of her at times. She also often drags Nyamo into buying expensive drinks for her. She has a car named the Yukarimobile, which she is god awful at driving, and has traumatized Chiyo with her driving skills. She is somewhat similiar to Tomo.

Nyamo is a gym teacher, but a homeroom teacher for Class 5 in their first year, and in the last two years a homeroom teacher for Class 2. Nyamo was a nickname for her while she was still a student, and eventually was what most called her due to Yukari still calling her that. She is a highschool friend with Yukari. She is very similiar to Yomi.

Kaori is a shy and sensitive girl, usually addressed by Kaorin as a nickname because it sounds cuter. Her best friend is Chihiro. She is in love with Sakaki, and tries to not show her feelings as much, but obviously kind of fails. Even if Sakaki knows, she doesn't reciprocate. She is apart of the astrology club.

Maya is an Iriomote Mountain cat, and Sakaki's pet who lives with Chiyo until Sakaki can move into her own place. Read online by Sakaki, Maya's mother was ran over by a car, and somehow followed Sakaki home, defended her of a gang of cats, so Sakaki decided to keep him.

Kimura is a male literature teacher at the school who's main personality is being a pervert. He openly admits to only being a teacher because he likes looking at high-school girls. He is married to a wife who he has a child with. He has a specific liking to Kaori. There's not much to say about him.

Kamineko is a cat that's often seen by Sakaki on her way to and back from school, but when Sakaki tries to pet it, bites her. Lead the gang of cats that Maya scared off.

Mr Tadakichi is a gentle dog owned by Chiyo. He is taken on walks every evening, sometimes with Sakaki. He is big enough that Chiyo can ride him.
